Red shoes for women's rights: Lilienfeld sets signs against violence
A special campaign is started in Lilienfeld to set a clear sign against violence on women. Mayor Manuel Aichberger and City Councilor Annemarie Mitterlehner are determined to fight for a zero tolerance policy in cooperation with women's and men's advice and the police. Under the motto "Red Shoes" and the creation of a very special flag, it is emphasized that violence against women is a problem for society as a whole and is not just a personal matter.
The action is inspired by the Mexican artist Elina Chauvet, who, after the violent death of her sister, drew attention to the problem of female female. The red shoes that stand for the fact that many women are cruel in a cruel way are symbolized just because they are women. This sad reality is brought to the fore by the action in order to raise awareness of these serious crimes.
important offers of help in the region
In addition to the artistic campaign, the city is also involved in other ways: in summer orange parking benches were set up, which also set a visible sign against violence on women. With the message "No place for violence" and a colorful design, passers -by should be stimulated to think. The benches are strategically placed in heavily frequented places to reach as many people as possible, explains Aichberger.
In order to ensure quick help for those affected, the city works closely with the women's advice center. This advice center opens its doors for women and girls from the age of 14 every Tuesday and Wednesday. The advisory services are free and anonymous, regardless of the respective religious or sexual orientation. The head of the advice center emphasizes that it is important that every woman in the district is informed about this support in order to improve her life situation and to expand her opportunities.
Unfortunately, violence against women in Austria is widespread. Statistics show that every third woman in the country is affected by physical or sexual violence. The number of femicides reaches alarming heights, with 26 reported cases in 2024 and numerous other acts of violence. According to the current reports, there were 39 attempts to murder and the most serious violent acts on women by November 19th.
Nobody should have to live in fear, and therefore it is important that affected women know where to seek help. The "Red Shoes" campaign is another step in the right direction to address and combat violence against women. The city of Lilienfeld shows strong commitment to sensitize society to the topic and to provide information.
