Light festival in Krems: Hidden arts enlighten the old town
The temperatures drop, the days are getting shorter and the nights in Krems invite you to focus on the light. November is not only a month of change, but also the perfect time for the light festival in the old town of Krems, which is taking place for the fourth time this year. The event was opened by an impressive play of light, which was designed by artists from the region and international format.
The curators Jakob and Kerstin Wiesmayer have selected a total of ten fascinating stations for visitors, which are distributed across the entire city. You can see art installations that immerse the cityscape in a colorful light. After sunset at the "Lights on" event, the exciting Magical Light Tour began, which allows the participants to experience the old town in a completely new way.
creative light installations and surprising encounters
One of the highlights is the stone gate, which was impressively staged by the room and design strategy Laura Krok. By using colorful raster and artistic representations, it reflects the coexistence of people and the diverse relationships that exist in the city. In the Ursula Papelle, the artist Zalan Szakac captivates with an urgent atmosphere, which is reinforced by color filters, tonal elements and fog. This installation is reminiscent of the previous, colorful windows of the chapel, which were no longer replaced after the city fire of 1532.
Another remarkable station is the Piaristkirche, where Wolfgang Novotny has installed a fascinating rhombine network made of cords that reproduce the special architectural features of the vault. In the foyer of the historic GOzzoburg, a neon light sculpture by Miriam Hamann lights up and gives the place a modern twist.
The tour continues to narrow Rabengasse, where there is the impressive light projection "intermediate" by David Osthoff. Here, passers -by meets a mother with a child who steps down the stairs in a surreal lighting, while fogwear makes mysterious figures appear from the past. This installation raises the provocative question: "What remains if we are no longer?"
There are now two options available for night owls: either you can explore the bar scene in the Kremser Bermuda triangle or head for the northern city park, where Nico Aimars creates a new landscape with static photographs. The impressive combination of nature and art offers an extraordinary experience that completely transforms the character of the park. A little music, such as hypnotic beats, could make the ambience perfect to enjoy the night to the fullest.
The light festival in Krems not only offers a break from everyday life, but also a creative look at the connection between art and community. It is a great opportunity to admire the impressive installations and to experience the interaction of light and space in a historical context.
