Art, sound and culture: Krems celebrates the festival of diversity!

Krems, Österreich - The renowned Danube Festival in Krems caused a sensation with an exciting program in 2025. Among the highlights is the Irish Neofolk band Lankum, which is known for its unique sound and combines Tradition with modern drones. The American group Liturgy, led by the charismatic Haela Hunt-Hendrix, will combine tougher sounds from the Black Metal with a transcendental approach. The British band spiritualized, famous for her sounds between Shoegaze, rock and psychedelic, will also enter the stage. The festival will take place in various locations in Krems from 2nd to 4th and from May 9th to 11th, as announced by the website of the festival www.donaufestival.at.

The program of the festival also includes several artistic installations and performances that take up current social issues. Particular attention is paid to the installation of Göksu Kunak, which has been discussing the political entanglements in Turkey since 1996. The domestic collective of God’s entertainment presents a "dubious doppelganger of the Danube", while the video opera of Ayla Pierrot Arendt illuminates peace in Georgia. In addition to these impressive works of art, the festival is accompanied musically by a wide range of artists, including the Welsh band Tristwch Y Fenywod and the electronics pioneers from Yellow Swans.

As part of the festival, the new dramaturge Sara Abbasi, who has already worked at the Vienna Burgtheater and in the Salzburg State Theater, will be active as a curator in the performance area. The Danube Festival not only acts as a cultural meeting point, but also as a platform for innovative artistic disputes.

The musical roots of the Krems region are remarkable and go back to the old stone time, with finds such as flutes from the Gravette culture, which document the development of music in the region. This shows how deeply rooted the music culture in Krems is supported by local initiatives and festivals that maintain the inheritance and at the same time set new creative impulses. The history of music in Krems is already an impressive testimony of cultural diversity and artistic continuity, which is becoming increasingly important, as is shown on the reloading humanism platform.
