Dispute over clinic locations: Korneuburg, Stockerau and Hollabrunn in danger

A heated debate has developed in the district after the "Kronen Zeitung" published an expert paper on the structural reform of the Lower Austrian hospitals. The document, which was created three years ago, suggests closing the clinics in Korneuburg, Stockerau and Hollabrunn and bringing them together in a new hospital called Weinviertel South-West. However, the state health agency emphasized that these are only suggestions that have not yet been determined.

Hubert Keyl, member of the state parliament of the FPÖ from Korneuburg, expressed his lack of understanding of the prevailing excitement. He emphasizes that the FPÖ clearly stands for a location guarantee for the existing hospitals in the state parliament. "What has been decided applies to us," he notes, adding that one is always ready to bring about improvements, but do not accept any deteriorations in medical care.

SPÖ warns of a clearcut

The SPÖ district chairman Martin Peterl warns of a "total clear cut at the Weinviertel hospitals". Together with the Korneuburger Vice Mayor Bernadette Haider-Wittmann, he demands from the Korneuburg city boss and member of the state parliament Christian Gepp to work for the preservation of the local hospital. Haider-Wittmann emphasizes that the Korneuburg hospital is an essential institution for the region and that "security of supply" should not be abandoned.

Keyl counters the allegations and criticizes the SPÖ not to deal with its own responsibilities. He points out that SPÖ health state councilor Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig is part of the health pact and is therefore also involved in the situation. "The paper is over three years old, so it is clear what responsibility it concerns," explains Keyl.

Christian Gepp, the member of the state parliament of Korneuburg, plans to comment on the suggestions in the course of today. The tense situation is still being observed closely, since the course of this discussion could be decisive for the future of regional health care.
