New SchoolRadBus promotes safety and exercise in Stockerau

In Stockerau, a new occasion brought joy for students and parents: the elementary schools were equipped with new bicycle parking facilities, and this was a fitting celebration. At the beginning of the school year, 70 brand new bike racks were built there, and a small opening ceremony was held to showcase this innovation. As part of this event, students and parents had the opportunity to cycle to school together and use the newly installed facilities.

There was great excitement as the cyclists gathered at the meeting point. Two groups formed in the east, at the “Wiesener Straße” cycle path roundabout, and in the west, at the corner of “Unter den Linden” and the corner of Prinz-Eugen-Straße. Participants followed the call and cycled towards the primary school, using mixed footpaths and cycle paths as well as quiet residential streets. There were several stops along the way where other children and parents could join us.

A shared adventure

The event was organized by the schools' parents' association, supported by the municipality and the Weinviertel mobility management of the NÖ.Regional. The aim was to establish “cycling to school together” as a regular initiative, which has now had its first successful test run.

The SchoolRadBus is an innovative idea that aims to make cycling safer and more communal for elementary school students. The children travel in groups, so they are accompanied by their parents and trained route managers. They can cycle to school several times a week with their peers. This not only promotes cohesion, but also safety on the roads.
