Art between dream and reality: District artists report on their everyday life

In the art and culture sector, there is often a strong imbalance when it comes to the articles of existence of the artists. While some live in modest conditions, others seem to make good money with their talent. A quick look at the region's studios and rehearsal rooms shows how different the everyday life of artists really is.

An example of this is Anna Lena Frey, a talented young woman from Korneuburg who has graduated from musical representation. The 23-year-old describes her experiences with the challenges of this industry. "It is a constant pilgrimage from one audition to the next," she explains. In an overcrowded market in which many other similar dreams have, it is particularly hard for young women to succeed. The business is not only competitive, but also brings a variety of deprivations. Nevertheless, she remains optimistic: "It is the most beautiful profession in the world."

The creative process of the artists

In contrast, the freelance artist Martina Klee-Angersbach, who maintains a quieter work in her studio, stands. Especially concentrated on oil painting, she brings maritime motifs to life. The sales of their works of art, which are between 300 and 2,500 euros, attract interested parties and enable the painter to live from their passion. "It was a further and rocky path, but now I am very lucky to be able to live on my art," says Klee-Angersbach and illustrates that her creative work is an important part of her identity.

For the musicians of the band "Trés Bois", however, a living is not just a dream. Although they feel the love of music, they also pursue safe bread jobs. The singer and guitarist Thomas Rothmeier explains: "The desire to be able to live from music was there. But when I look at my friends who dared to take this step, I cannot say that I want to live this uncertainty. Music is much more important to me, so I do what I really want to do." In summary, this insight into the everyday work of local artists shows various perspectives and the reality with which they are confronted. Art not only has to do with talent, but also with the clever navigation through the many challenges that life as an artist brings.
