A spectacular drug discovery occurred during a routine baggage check at Vienna-Schwechat Airport on March 18, 2025. The 22-year-old Swedish citizen whose name was written on the suitcase was arrested. She was arrested immediately at the gate of her onward flight and taken into custody. According to the Schwechat City Police Command, a case was initiated against her and the Korneuburg public prosecutor ordered her to be sent to the Korneuburg Correctional Facility, according to the report 5min.at.
Drug trafficking and legal consequences
The discovery of the cannabis herb could have serious consequences for the young woman as she is suspected of being involved in the international drug trade. The exact circumstances of how the substances came into the country and what networks may be behind them are currently being investigated by the authorities. Cooperation between international police authorities could also be important here in order to shed light on further background information and possible accomplices.
