Future of healthcare: New course of study launched in Horn
A new phase in health education began on September 26, 2024 in the Waldviertel: The bachelor's degree program for health and nursing in Horn was ceremonially launched. This represents a significant step in regional training and offers young people the opportunity to further their training in the healthcare sector.
A total of 34 first-year students, consisting of 11 men and 23 women, enrolled in the course at IMC Krems. The students mainly come from the surrounding districts of Gmünd, Horn, Waidhofen/Thaya, Zwettl and Hollabrunn. At the welcome, Mag. Elisabeth Klang, the nursing director, and Mag. Franz Huber, the commercial director of the state hospital, were enthusiastic about the new generation of nursing staff.
Importance of training for the region
During his speech, Mag. Huber emphasized how relevant this course of study is for the future of the Horn region. "This is a huge success for the future of our region. Especially in the area of health and nursing care, it is crucial that we offer this training in the Waldviertel. Anyone who studies and completes their internships here will perhaps stay in our region later," he explained. This statement emphasizes that locally trained specialists could also stay local and thus make an important contribution to local health care.
Prof. (FH) Markus Golla, head of the program and institute, expressed his joy about the committed group of students. Er bezeichnete den Standort Horn als „topmodern ausgestattet“ und betonte, dass die Unterrichtenden ihre umfangreiche Erfahrung in die Lehre einbringen würden. This combination of theory and practice promises high-quality training that will benefit future skilled workers.
The nursing director Klang also highlighted the innovative character of the course: "With this future-oriented course of study, the IMC Krems makes a decisive contribution to ensuring health care in the region. The Waldviertel health region offers students a variety of practical opportunities at twelve locations, which is almost unique." This shows that students are not only provided with theoretical knowledge, but they can also gain realistic experience in various institutions.
The development of the course comes at a time when the need for qualified nursing staff is constantly growing. The opportunity to learn and work in the home region could not only encourage more people to pursue a career in healthcare, but also improve the quality of care in the region in the long term. It is already clear that the decision to offer this course of study is an important step for regional development in the field of health professions.
With the support of educational institutions such as the IMC Krems, the basis for future-oriented healthcare in the Waldviertel is being laid. Students who have now started their educational journey should make the best possible use of this opportunity.
