New location planned for the Bremen sports fishing club at Unisee

The old barn in Arsten is nothing more than a shadow of its former self. The Bremen Sport Fishing Club (SFV) stored its materials there for many years, but the condition of the building has become so dilapidated that it can no longer be used. A new building in the same location is out of the question, which is why the association is now considering a new location at the Unisee, where it would like to continue its activities. The SFV has concluded a lease agreement with Immobilien Bremen and the sports department in order to build a modern material warehouse on a property directly next to the parking lot on Hochschulring.

The planned area is around 700 square meters, on which a flat-roofed new building with a staggered floor is to be built. The building application has already received positive feedback and the association is now working on the final details. In addition to various materials, the new building will also house boats and trailers for maintaining the waters and a fish breeding station will be set up. This is intended to enable endangered fish species and crabs to be reared in incubators and tanks before they are released into their natural habitats. In addition, the SFV will move its office to the Hochschulring, where training and seminar rooms as well as the issue of fishing licenses will also be located.

Advisory board Horn-Lehe supports the initiative

Since the beginning, the members of the Horn-Lehe advisory board have accompanied the plans of the sport fishing club and supported it. During last year's budget negotiations, the advisory board requested funding for the necessary civil engineering work as well as a subsidy towards the costs of the new building. The SFV has been active for 115 years and contributes to the care of the city's waters in Bremen on a voluntary basis. This makes it the oldest nature and water protection association in the city and does valuable work that compensates for the lack of resources in the state of Bremen.

The advisory board doesn't just want to support the club's new building. The construction of a public toilet and a drinking water fountain at Unisee is also on the agenda. Environmental department representatives emphasize that a toilet is very useful in this location due to the numerous recreational activities such as stand-up paddling and fishing. In addition, many truck drivers also use the parking lot on Hochschulring for their breaks. A clean toilet would not only benefit the residents, but also the many recreational athletes.

Problematic toilet situation at Unisee

A look at a report on the ecological stability of the Unisee shows that the toilet situation here can be improved. The report emphasizes that phosphorus pollution caused by the number of bathers must be reduced. An increase in sanitary facilities is therefore supported. It is also important that bathers are made aware of the need to actually use the toilets in order to protect the water quality of the bathing lake. According to local office manager Inga Köstner, there has not yet been a binding commitment from the city to build and maintain a toilet facility. If nothing changes, the SFV plans to install its own toilet in its new building, which will then be reserved for members only.

Overall, it remains to be seen how the association's plans will develop and whether the city's initiatives to improve the infrastructure at Unisee can be implemented in a timely manner.
