Modernization of the power grid: Krumau-Horn receives new cable!
An important step in the modernization of the Lower Austrian power grid is currently being carried out: the existing high -voltage line between Krumau and Horn is replaced by a modern 110 kV double line. This measure has become necessary because the old management from 1952 no longer meets the modern requirements. The new line is laid over a length of around 18.4 kilometers and largely runs along the existing route, but with targeted deviations to increase the distance to the local areas. The work started in the summer of 2024 and should be completed by the end of 2025, as NES NÖ and the mayors of the affected communities emphasize. In addition, a total investment volume of around 15 million euros will flow into this new infrastructure in order to ensure the energy supply in the long term, reports progress of the construction work
The renovation of the 110 kV line includes the dismantling of the old line and the installation of new masts, which leads to a reduction in the total number of 101 to 70 masts. These new masts, which reach an average height of 35 meters and are specially designed for bird protection, will not only improve the aesthetics of the landscape, but also increase safety for the animal world. The heart of the project was a helicopter mission, in which the facilities of the new management were stretched, such as netz-noe.at . The complete commissioning of the new management is scheduled for November 2024, whereby the recultivation of the areas should also be completed in 2025. The ambitious modernization strategy of Netz Lower Austria by 2030 comprises the construction of around 40 substances, an annual addition of around 700 transformer stations and the laying of around 1,000 km of medium and low voltage cables. This massive expansion is crucial for adapting the power grid to the increasing requirements and the growing proportion of renewable energies, for example from photovoltaics and wind power. The current investment of over 450 million euros in this financial year shows that the future of energy supply in Lower Austria is already in full.
