Maximilian Hübner, a young filmmaker born in Retz and grown up, has been enthusiastic about their own film projects since 2019. "The windmill has a very special meaning for me. As a windmill leader, I am often there and feel a deep connection to this piece of home," he reported. His documentation aims to convey the stories that are often not told during the normal tours.

The Retzer Windmühle in the historical context

The Retzer Windmühle, as it is known today, was built in 1853 and belongs to the so-called "Dutch type". This design enables the cap and wing to turn the mill in order to optimally align it according to the wind. Previously there was an older mill on the Retzer Kalvarienberg, the so -called "Bockwindmühle", which was built in 1772

until 1924 the mill was in operation. But with the introduction of new technologies, such as the steam mill, the grinding service was discontinued. A comprehensive restoration took place from 2008 to 2010, so that the mill is now fully functional again. As an important historical monument, she attracts numerous tourists who want to learn more about the traditional miller and local history.
