Advent festival in Hollabrunn: Students inspire in the traditional market!

Erzbischöfliches Gymnasium Hollabrunn, 2023 Hollabrunn, Österreich - The Advent Festival at the Archbishop's Hollabrunn high school ensured a magical start at the Christmas season. As every year, the school campus turned into a festive marketplace where students from the lower level offered creative craft and the upper level classes provided the culinary delights. Musical performances in the festively decorated arcades and in the ballroom delighted the visitors and provided plenty of applause, such as the NÖN reported .

Christmas in class

The focus of Christmas is on the subject of Christmas in the fifth grade religious education. In a group with different traditions and beliefs, the students can share their experiences and knowledge that they have already brought from primary school. However, teachers observed that knowledge of Christian customs often no longer has a matter of course as before, which leads to an in -depth exchange. In class, not only Advent and traditions such as the Advent wreath were discussed, but also historical figures such as St. Nicholas and Saint Barbara were discussed. These traditions were clearly explained, while the students set up barbara branches at home and waited excitingly for their blooming, such as Gymnasium Marienberg .

Through creative projects, such as the handicrafts of a Christmas leprosal and reading the biblical Christmas story, the students were able to understand the central messages of the festival. The discussion about the various representations in international cribs illustrated the universal importance of the Christmas message: to understand Jesus as the greatest gift is the focus of the celebrations. The students brought new perspectives and thus expanded their understanding of the holidays, which made the lessons an exciting journey of discovery.
