Designing the future: Gmünder students develop digital innovations
at the Gmünd high school recently took place the second skill camp, and the event was a complete success. This year, 25 students from the region took part, including young people from the Czech Republic for the first time. Together with seven regional companies and the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, the young participants developed innovative approaches to digital transformation.
The concept of the skill camp is very popular: young people have the opportunity to find solutions in cooperation with local companies that focus on progress in digitization. The novelty this year - pupils from the Třeboň high school in the Czech Republic - brought an international perspective to the already proven event.
valuable partnerships and international participation
Thanks to the support of the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, the students were able to get to know innovative methods and technologies under the guidance of research officers and implement them in practical applications. The results of these workshops also serve as a fundamental basis for future scientific work. Thomas Moser, the head of the Institute for Creativemedia/Technologies at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, explains: "We promote entrepreneurial thinking and innovative ability in the region. With the skills camp, we give young people the opportunity to develop their creative ideas in a professional context."The municipality of Gmünd once again provided the premises for the camp and enabled all participants to participate free of charge. Mayor Helga Rosenmayer emphasizes the cooperation between the FH, the high school and the regional economy: "To bring the initiative, school, science and business together, has great potential for the future." During the camp run, the students had the opportunity to deal intensively with topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainable building and waste robots. In a five -speaking workshops, they developed future -oriented solutions and presented their results in front of an interested audience that consisted of representatives of local and national politics, parents and companies.
innovative solutions and creative approaches
The final presentations showed numerous interesting projects. Among them were concepts that addressed the use of artificial intelligence in production and a comprehensive live demo that illustrated the possibilities and challenges of chatbots. A model of an environmentally friendly house received special attention that was equipped with a photovoltaic system and a wind turbine. A short film about a waste robot, which showed his varied everyday work, also met with great interest.
The international participation of students from the Czech Republic additionally enriched the event. Her presentations were partially kept in English, which brought out not only their technical skills, but also their language skills.
The collaboration with well-known companies such as Agrana, Eaton Industries, ELK-Gertischenhaus, Leyrer + Graf, Pollmann, Stark GmbH and Test-Fuchs was crucial for the success of the camp. These partners enabled the participants to access valuable resources and practical experiences, which can be important in their later professional life.
The FH St. Pölten was active with two institutes, the Institute for Creativemedia/Technologies and the Carl Ritter of Ghega Institute for Integrated Mobility Research. Petra Fischer, who is responsible for research coordination and innovations in the regional environment, led the organizational coordination of the camp. Fischer expresses itself positively about the course: "The skills camp impressively showed us how future -oriented solutions can arise from creative and interdisciplinary cooperation."
