Fraudster sells iPhones – buyers are left with empty promises!
A threatening scam is shocking the region: A 33-year-old man from the Gmünd district defrauded numerous buyers by offering iPhones at temptingly low prices. Buyers paid between 250 and 750 euros for the cell phones, which were never delivered. The disappointed customers were put off with excuses and neither the purchased items nor the seller showed up at the agreed handover dates in Horn and Krems. Despite repeated requests for delivery, the sender remained untraceable, which ultimately led to charges being filed against him. This reports meinkreis.at.
After a police investigation, the fraudster was located using call data recording and charged before the Krems regional court. With a background of four previous convictions, which also indicate fraud, the defendant confessed and stated that he had committed the crimes because of a gambling addiction. He is currently in therapy. Before this incident, a prison sentence of 18 months, seven months of which were conditional, had already been imposed, to which an additional two months' imprisonment was now added, which illustrates the seriousness of his crimes. In parallel to these cases of fraud, the current development of fuel prices in Lower Austria is attracting attention. According to current statistics, there are a total of 601 gas stations in the region. The prices for diesel and gasoline have recently risen sharply, which is due to geopolitical tensions. While the average diesel price is 1,647 euros and the gasoline price is 1,598 euros, the gas stations have price differences of up to 20 euros in the price per liter. Buyers should therefore always find out about the cheapest gas stations and fill up at the right time to save.
