EVN invests 100 million euros: E-mobility conquers Lower Austria!

Böheimkirchen, Österreich - The EVN, the largest operator of charging stations in Austria, sets a relevant accents in e-mobility with a comprehensive investment plan of 100 million euros by 2030. The aim is to expand the charging infrastructure to promote the use of electric vehicles and to make it easier to switch to sustainable mobility. This is supported in particular by the construction of new charging points in strategically sensible places such as supermarkets and highways. Recently, the loading point at the Smart Liv’in Hotel in Böheimkirchen was modernized and expanded to set up twelve quick load points that are covered and are operated with solar energy. Visitors can relax in an adjacent park during the charging process, which further improves the experience. This station is intended to serve as a model for future charging parks, as OE24 reports.

The EVN currently operates over 3,400 charging points. The latest expansion by 500 charging points this year aims to meet the needs of e-mobility users. This includes 250 DC rapid loading points that enable the vehicles to be charged quickly. This charging infrastructure is not only in urban areas, but also along important traffic axes and near local suppliers, where people spend their everyday life. In addition, in cooperation with Postbus GmbH, EVN also created charging infrastructure for eleven e-buses in the southern Weinviertel to support the switch to municipal electric buses. Two lines have already been opened in the area of e-city bus lines in Baden, which help to save around 100,000 liters of diesel annually, such as Evn.at.

Development of e-mobility in Austria

In recent years, Austria has undergone considerable development in the field of e-mobility. According to the 2024 electromobility, around 44,500 new battery -electric car (BEV) were approved in 2024, which corresponds to 17.6 % of the total approval. At the end of the year, the total number of BEV cars in Austria added up to over 200,000, with almost a quarter of the vehicles being approved in 2024. In addition, the expansion of the charging infrastructure is highly emphasized, with over 25,000 publicly accessible loading points across Austria, as mentioned in the report on ots.at.

The average distance to the next quick loading point has decreased to less than six kilometers. Funding programs such as Ladin contribute to the creation of new charging points in under -provoked regions and enabled the establishment of 267 new charging points in 2024. Despite stagnating growth in the new registrations of e-cars, there is a movement in the field of full-electric buses and heavy BEV trucks.

In order to determine the future need for charging infrastructure and classify suitable areas, the new digital charging planner will be introduced from mid -2025, together with the charging ground, which supports municipalities in providing charging areas. E-mobility in Austria therefore faces growing challenges, but also offers numerous opportunities for sustainable mobility of the future.
