Chancellor Scholz opens quantum data center in Ehningen
Chancellor Olaf Scholz is expected in Baden-Württemberg on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. The appointment is of great importance as he will take part in two outstanding events. In the morning, Scholz is expected to attend the opening of the technology group IBM's first quantum data center in Ehningen, located in the Böblingen district. This new facility is a significant step in the development of powerful computing technology that goes far beyond the capabilities of traditional computers.
Quantum computers use the principles of quantum mechanics and are able to tackle problems that are extremely complex or even insoluble for traditional computers. They are particularly well suited to simulating complex chemical systems, potentially enabling extraordinary applications in areas such as materials research and drug development.
Speech for Reinhold Würth
After the tour at IBM, Scholz will continue to Künzelsau, where he will give a speech in honor of Reinhold Würth, the “Screw King”. The 89-year-old entrepreneur is celebrating his 75th working anniversary on this day. His life began at the age of 14 when he began an apprenticeship in the family business. After his father's death, Würth took over management of the company when he was just 19 years old and led it to international fame.
The Würth Group is now one of the largest trading companies for fastening and assembly materials and employs over 88,500 people worldwide, including around 27,000 in Germany. In 2023, the company achieved sales of more than 20 billion euros. Scholz’s presence underlines the importance of Würth’s contribution to the German economy and his role as an outstanding entrepreneur.
These dates show not only the Chancellor's attention to technological developments, but also to successful German entrepreneurs who form the backbone of the economy. During his visit, Scholz will also have the opportunity to speak to IBM employees and learn their impressions of the new quantum industry.
