St. Pölten: Mother condemned against son for years of violence
A lay judge from St. Pölten sentenced a 41-year-old mother from the Amstetten district to five years and three months of imprisonment. The reason for the judgment is continued exercise of violence against her then ten -year -old son. This decision is not yet final.
The indictment describes that after the death of her children's father, the mother began beating her son almost every day for over a year. It is said to have attacked him with slaps, punches and various objects. It is also reported that she pulled him on the hair and kneel on rice. The verbal attacks were just as violent, with insults ranging from "asshole" to "son of a bitch". Her younger daughter, who is two years older than the son, was largely spared from physical violence, but often had to help in the household.

A 66-year-old educator who helped the mother with a move was also charged. He is said to have noticed the overwhelming woman and took care of the children sporadically. In the investigation, however, he was accused of misrepresenting and trying to cover the woman. In court, he denied having heard violent acts against the children or insulting statements. Instead, he only noticed the rough tone of the mother.
The statements of numerous witnesses and the children's contradictions finally led to the guilty verdict towards the mother. She herself rejected the allegations and "not guilty." The court imposed a punishment that was scheduled at the age of five to 15, and was decided just above the minimum.
