Henschke celebrates student silver, but the VCA team disappoints in the league!

On April 8, 2025, Michael Henschke, the sports director of VCA Amstetten, celebrated a remarkable success with the BG/BRG Amstetten youth team. The students won the silver medal at the national championships, which indicates the great potential in the youth sector. The performance of the young volleyball players was particularly remarkable as a total of 260 schools took part in the competition.

Unfortunately, the celebration of this success was quickly overshadowed when the VCA Amstetten first division team lost 3-1 to Vienna the following day in the first leg for seventh place in the powerfusion Volley League Men. The sets ended clearly with 22-25, 25-17, 14-25 and 11-25, which was a clear disappointment for Henschke and the team.

Disappointment with the professional team

After the defeat, Henschke expressed his frustration with the first team's performance. He wished the team could learn from the students who performed so strongly. Despite this disappointment, Henschke did not give up hope. He expects his team to have a chance to finish seventh in the final game of the year.

The influence of science in volleyball

The sport of volleyball is facing increasing demands at the highest level of competition. In order to meet these challenges, science plays a crucial role. Innovative ideas and research projects are necessary to stay connected to the world's best and to gain competitive advantages. The German Volleyball Association (DVV) plans to develop conceptual projects in collaboration with scientific research institutions that are intended to promote top-class sport.

In order to make the specific needs clear to the university partners, specific research topics have been defined by national trainers in recent months. These topics are central to the further development of (young) competitive sports. A science guide was created to serve as a basis for future research activities. These developments are particularly relevant to continuously improve performance in volleyball.

While VCA Amstetten celebrates both successes in the youth sector and has to overcome challenges in the Bundesliga team, the hope for a positive turnaround in the rest of the season remains.
