In the small community of St. Georgen am Ybbsfelde, an important project for sustainable energy supply is presented. From autumn 2024, the "Renewable Energiege community Amstetten-Ost" will offer the opportunity to use locally generated energy and to share it with other members. This represents an important step towards ecological energy generation and primarily benefits the residents of the region.
A renewable community of energy, often abbreviated as EEG, is a community in which households are together its generated electricity. For example, a household with a photovoltaic system can sell its excess electricity to the community. This is done at a tariff defined in the community, which benefits both the electricity generator and the members who can benefit from renewable electricity.

In order to become a member of the EEG Amstetten-Ost, both private households and small and medium-sized companies are cordially invited. The prerequisite for membership is that interested parties are connected to the Amstetten-Ost substation. This affects the municipalities of St. Georgen, Neustadl, Viehdorf, Euratsfeld, Blindenmarkt and Ferschnitz. In addition, access to renewable energy sources must be given. Membership is possible at any time, even if there are already electricity delivery contracts. However, a smart meter is required to correctly measure the energy values.
