Volunteers promote community: eating on wheels in Zeillern

Around 25 volunteers regularly get involved in the municipalities of Oed-Oehling and Zeillern to keep the “Eating on wheels” campaign. The aim of this initiative is to offer a daily meal to offer older or needy people who cannot prepare a warm lunch. Throughout the year, more than 7,000 warm meals are distributed, with around 20 portions being output every single day.

Mayor Michaela Hinterholzer from Oed-Oehling and Zeillern's Mayor Friedrich Pallinger emphasize the importance of voluntary support. "During the week one of our employees brings meals by car to those in need. On the weekends, on the other hand, it is the committed volunteers who enable this action. Without their active commitment, the whole would not be feasible," said both mayors. In order to thank the volunteers for their commitment, the municipalities organized a meal together in the Gasthaus Dorfschmiede.

Once a year, the volunteers gather for this special thank you. It is an opportunity not only to appreciate the work done, but also to make contacts and exchange experiences. The mayors emphasized that the initiative can only be carried out in the form through the tireless use of these helpers as they do today.
