Mother from Gmunden fights for care allowance for seriously ill son

A three -year -old boy from Gmunden in Upper Austria is faced with a shortcut of care, which was decided by the pension insurance institution (PVA). The monthly support was reduced from care allowance 3 to level 2. This means a drastic reduction in financial resources for the family that has to take care of the well -being of the seriously ill child.

According to the current care allowance levels, the affected boy now receives 370.30 euros per month instead of 577 euros, which are intended for level 3. Already the increase to the next higher level 4 would make the financial burden a noticeably easier, since it is almost 500 euros more than level 2 at 865.10 euros. The boy's mother is desperate about the decision and has contacted the Chamber of Labor (AK) Upper Austria.

Legal dispute over the need for care

The AK reacted immediately and complained to the court to check the downgrading. This led to a positive result: the downgrading was lifted in court and it was found that there was a claim to care allowance 4. This decision could be important for numerous affected families who rely on financial support.

determination of the need for care

The determination of the care allowance levels is a complex process that is made by visiting qualified medical staff. The applicant's state of health is examined in order to precisely determine the need for care. This visit can take place in your own apartment, in a nursing home or in the hospital and must be registered in advance. A confidant can be present during the appointment to provide relevant information on the care situation.

In order to take into account the increased need for care, so -called extrast lessons are counted, especially in children with special behavioral problems. A distinction is made between different age groups that provide specific hours of hours:

Alter Number of extra lessons
to the 7th birthday 50 hours
to the 15th birthday 75 hours
from the 15th birthday 45 hours
