motorcycle accidents and their causes
The tragic incident is in the context of a worrying statistics on motorcycle accidents. In Germany, over 4.7 million motorcycles are approved, with about 15 percent being driven by women. Motorcyclists have a significantly higher risk than drivers. This is particularly due to the fact that motorcycles have no crumple lines, seat belts and often no ABS. According to ADAC, the risk of being involved in an accident is four times as high for motorcyclists, and the disposal rate is even seven times compared to car drivers.
An analysis of the ADAC accident database shows that since 2000 the number of fatal and seriously injured motorcyclists has decreased, but the percentage of the roaddies is increasing. Every year there are over 500 fatal and almost 10,000 seriously injured motorcyclists in Germany. Almost every fourth traffic accident outside of towns affects motorcyclists, and over a third of these accidents are sole accidents. The most common causes of accident are driving errors (47 percent) and excessive speed (39 percent).
prevention measures and recommendations
In order to increase the safety of motorcyclists, the ADAC recommends various measures. This includes wearing protective clothing, regular security checks of the vehicles and driving safety training. Technical solutions such as cornering and traction control could also help to avoid accidents.
In addition, an improvement in the street infrastructure is required to defuse the focus of accidents. Defects in visibility and grip on the road are common factors that increase the risk of accidents. Motorcyclists should also drive defensively and be aware of the physical limits of their vehicle to protect themselves and other road users.
The tragic accident of the 26-year-old driver reminds us of the dangers of motorcycling and the need to always act carefully and responsibly.
