Marco Schwarz celebrates an impressive comeback in the slalom in Val d'Isère!
On Sunday Marco Schwarz returns to the Val d’Isere slalom after an almost year-long break from racing. The Carinthian is really looking forward to his comeback and tells the “Krone” that he has to think less and can immerse himself more in the adventure of skiing. He is celebrating his return not only out of personal conviction, but also with the aim of gradually fighting his way back into the competition. Schwarz plans to compete in both the giant slalom and slalom in Alta Badia, but remains realistic about his expectations as injury still presents ongoing challenges. “I have to give myself the breaks this season,” continued Schwarz, hoping to find the right balance between training and competition.
Marco Odermatt triumphs
Meanwhile, Swiss ski star Marco Odermatt won his first giant slalom of the season by just eight hundredths of a second. In Val d’Isère, Odermatt fought his way through the first run in thick snow flurries and overcame several challenges. Although his performance was not dominant, he was able to prevail against Austrian competitor Patrick Feurstein, who ultimately took second place. Odermatt proved that he can remain strong even in difficult conditions, although the first riders benefited from better conditions in the second round while the last starters had to contend with poor visibility.
The race was characterized by an emotional moment for Alexander Schmid, who came in 15th as the best German and dedicated his performance to the memory of a deceased friend. In addition to these dramatic twists and turns, the Frenchman Clement Noel also experienced a moment of shock: in his home race, he had an accident in the first run and had to be treated on the side of the track for a long time, which caused excitement among the spectators. The competition in Val d'Isère was packed with excitement, surprising twists and touching stories that illuminate both Schwarz's comeback and Odermatt's performance.
