Wage revolution in cleaning: 3.8% more from 2025 for 54,000 employees!
In a decisive breakthrough for over 54,000 employees in monument, facade and building cleaning in Austria, an agreement was reached on the collective agreement. From January 1, 2025, the wage will increase by 3.8 percent, which corresponds to the full value of inflation and thus increases the minimum wage to just under 2,080 euros gross per month 5min.at reported. The increase is particularly notable for apprentices, who now start with 1,028 euros in their first year of training - an increase of 6.5 percent.
In addition, a long-term plan was adopted to reduce wage groups from six to four by 2027, which will primarily benefit employees with lower incomes. At a time when many women, including many migrants, work part-time, Ursula Woditschka from the vida union said: “With more full-time work in this heavily female industry, we can ensure that more women can live on their income.” The new regulation also includes a six-month calculation in almost all areas except hotel cleaning, which should lead to an increase in the number of full-time positions.
Wage increases for low and middle earners
From January 1, 2024, around 95 percent of employees in the lower and middle income groups will benefit from a wage increase of 9.2 percent. A key success of the collective agreement is the achievement of the gross minimum wage of 2,000 euros per month, as Monika Rosensteiner, the collective bargaining manager, explains. It emphasizes the increase in real wages and the compensation of the costs caused by inflation for employees who work primarily part-time. These measures are a vital step, as inflation is particularly felt in these wage groups, said Rosensteiner.
