Hofer closes branch in Klagenfurt: employees remain

The supermarket chain Hofer, known for its inexpensive food, has announced that it will close one of its branches in the state capital Klagenfurt. On November 1st, the branch on Stadlweg will close its doors forever after 23 years of operation.

This move is described by corporate communications manager Cathleen Völkel as part of a comprehensive strategic reassessment of the branch network. “The decision is based on various factors, including location analysis and the overall concept of our branch network,” she explained. Despite the closure, the positive news remains that all ten employees of the affected branch can keep their jobs by being accommodated in other Hofer branches.

Alternative shopping locations

However, this means a change for customers, as they will have to switch to other branches from November. Fortunately, there are still eight other Hofer branches available nearby. These are located in Ebenthal and at various locations in Klagenfurt, including Schlachthofstrasse, Waidmannsdorfer Strasse, Turmgasse, Steingasse, Villacher Strasse, St. Veiter Strasse and Feldkirchner Strasse. This variety of alternatives makes it easier for customers to access their usual foods.

The decision to close reflects ongoing developments in retail, which are often influenced by changing shopping habits and market research. Hofer, which operates as part of the Aldi Group, follows a continuous improvement process in the company structure in order to remain efficient and customer-oriented.
