In Carinthia: 3.26 million euros for safe flood protection measures!
In the fight against the devastating consequences of floods, the state of Carinthia has launched two important projects. The disaster protection officer, State Councilor Daniel Fellner, emphasized yesterday's government meeting that the expansion of the flood protection infrastructure was essential to effectively protect the population. "The protection of life and life is in the top priority," said Fellner, announcing that the expansion will continue to be consistently pursued. Thanks to an investment of a total of 3.26 million euros, important protective measures in the Gailtal and Völkermarkt regions are now being realized, in which the federal government pays around 50 percent of the costs, as well as from reports .
planned measures in detail
Areas such as the Schießhüttenbach and the Forstgartenbach are particularly affected, where big rainfall repeatedly led to floods. In order to minimize future damage, the plan provides for the expansion of the shooting hut stream in the HQ100 area. A detour of the Forstgartenbach via a pipe canal to the Schießhüttenbach is planned. Natural retention spaces are also created in the Völkermarkt district, with the aim of significantly reducing the risk of flooding and particularly having to secure areas in need of protection such as the Vellach and the Wölfnitzbach, such as the Gailtal Journal
An essential part of the measures includes the replacement of land in the HQ100 area. Affected property owners are given the opportunity to replace a total of around 191,303 square meters, while areas on the Wölfnitzbach are also optimized in order to increase the retention rooms. This is done in particular above the settlement areas in the village of Ruden, where around 4,434 square meters are to be replaced. "With these preventive measures, we secure the settlement areas in Carinthia across generations," added Fellner, giving a strong feeling of security in the population threatened by floods.
