ÖBB is looking for 700 apprentices: opportunities for young people 2025

The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) have started a large initiative to hire a total of 700 apprentices across Austria next year. In view of the steadily increasing competition for qualified young people, ÖBB has already started looking for young talents who want to learn their craft in 26 different teaching professions. In Carinthia, ten apprenticeships are expected to be offered, with the addition that the completion of the Koralbahn could significantly expand the radius for potential apprenticeships, especially in Styria.

ÖBB spokeswoman Rosanna Zernatto-Peschel emphasizes that ÖBB is the largest training company for technical professions in Austria. "We look forward to applications for technical professions such as track construction technology and electrical engineering. These areas are the core competencies of the railroad," says Zernatto-Peschel. In addition to these traditional professions, the teaching profession is now also offered a real estate agent or real estate agent for the first time. The training location for this will be in Villach, which shows that ÖBB is also an important real estate manager and developer in Austria in this area.

training opportunities in Styria and Carinthia

In Styria, there are even 120 apprenticeships available for the coming year, which is significantly more than the number of places in Carinthia. The apprenticeships in Knittelfeld and Graz have proven to be particularly attractive for apprentices from Carinthia. Zernatto-Peschel explains: "These workshops are aimed at everyone who is interested in railway-specific professions." The Koralbahn could bring an additional advantage for learners from Carinthia. With their completion, the travel time from Klagenfurt to Graz is shortened to about 45 minutes. This could make the Styrian apprenticeships for day commuters who live in Carinthia even more interesting.

The recruitment process not only aims to train a new generation of specialists, but also to make the industry at the same time future -proof. Overall, ÖBB's offer of apprenticeship extends over various professional fields, with technical professions form the main supports, as Zernatto-Peschel explains.
