First social media day at the KTS: insights into the digital future
On October 3, 2024, a remarkable day took place at the Carinthian Tourism School (KTS) in Villach: the first social media day. Organized by the parents' association in cooperation with the school management, the event aimed to give the students valuable insights into the world of social media.
The occasion was a complete success and brought a fresh wind into the classroom. The event was carried out under the motto "Everything you need to know about Instagram, Tiktok & Co ...". Headmistress Mag. Birgit Pipp emphasized the importance of cooperation between the parents' association and the school: "The creative cooperation is crucial for our school projects and was always passionately supported by our parents."
A look at the social media landscape
In the interplay between education and digital trends, the students were offered a compact and targeted program. The lectures and workshops deal with essential aspects of social media: from use to the analysis of the target groups and the corresponding values associated with the platforms.
The event originated from a successful project by the parents' association that was launched last year: the first online school -promoted calendar. Local tourism companies donate a amount of money for every Advent day, which has now been used to organize the social media day. Marlene Bacher, the chairwoman of the parents' association, was enthusiastic about the use of the means: "From the beginning it was our goal to help the students directly and offer them opportunities."
During the day, not only theoretical knowledge was taught to the KTS students, but also practical skills on how to successfully design content on social media. An important aspect was storytelling, which should show the students how they can communicate emotionally with their contributions. In addition, basic principles of design and data preparation were treated that play a role in creating social media content.
The future of communication takes place on social networks, and with events such as the first social media day, the students of KTS are given important knowledge in order to survive in this fast -moving digital world.
