A serious traffic accident occurred in Goggerwenig on Friday afternoon. At around 3:27 p.m. two cars crashed head-on on the Seeberg federal road between Reipersdorf and Goggerwenig. The drivers of both vehicles suffered life-threatening injuries in this dramatic collision. Emergency services were immediately alerted after eyewitnesses provided first aid to the incident and started the rescue chain.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a person lying on the road. This person was apparently thrown from the car before the vehicle was flown approximately ten meters into a ditch.
Seriously injured people
The situation on site was tense. Both drivers were unresponsive and required immediate medical attention. A vehicle was so badly damaged that a person was trapped inside. To ensure a safe rescue, the roof of the vehicle was removed by the fire department. The injured received emergency medical care and were then transported to the Klagenfurt Clinic by the Christophorus 11 emergency medical helicopter and the Red Cross.
After the rescue operation, the clean-up work began. The Thalsdorf fire department remained at the scene of the accident to carry out the rescue work and reopen the road. The deployment of the rescue services was extensive: the St. Veit/Glan fire department was on site with five vehicles and 25 emergency services, supported by the Thalsdorf, Launsdorf and St. Donat fire departments as well as the police and the Red Cross. In total, numerous vehicles were in use, but the exact cause of the accident requires further investigation.
These tragic events highlight the dangers of road traffic and the need for careful driving. Details about the cause of the accident and the current condition of those affected are still pending as the investigation continues.
