In the municipality of Hermagor-Presseggersee there was a fire on November 18, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. that broke out in the basement of a boiler room in a single-family home. The incident quickly caused alarm when a 54-year-old resident was sitting in the living room with her dog and the dog suddenly alerted them to the dangerous smoke by barking loudly. This didn't make the woman hesitate for long - she immediately went outside and noticed heavy smoke coming from the basement window.
After the fire department was immediately alerted, the Tröpolach, Rattendorf and Hermagor fire departments responded to the scene with a total of 50 firefighters. Thanks to their quick intervention, the fire was quickly extinguished. Fortunately, there were no injuries in this incident, but significant damage was found to the building.
Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing
The quick response of the fire department and the resident may have prevented something worse from happening. An all-too-common reminder that sudden dangers can arise even in familiar situations.
