Maria Rain: Bahnbegestraße remains closed - community without help
The railway walk in Maria Rain remains closed after the devastating storms of the past year. The local community is faced with a financial bottleneck that makes an urgently needed renovation of the badly damaged road between the Lambichl and Maria Rain train stations. Mayor Franz Ragger (SPÖ) expressed the worrying news that the municipality is currently missing around 80,000 euros for the repairs. "We simply do not have the means to repair the street," said Ragger.
The search for support from the Austrian Bundesbahn (ÖBB) and the state of Carinthia has so far been unsuccessful. Ragger reports that the talks have not produced any positive results. The ÖBB does not recognize the amount of damage, and the explanation of the damage as construction defects was also rejected. Since the accompanying road is not considered a categorized path, the municipality cannot get access to the country's disaster funds, which further exacerbates the situation.
resentment of the residents and problems with traffic regulations
The residents of the affected road are increasingly upset about the lack of progress. It happens again and again that the driving ban signs are ignored and some road users avoid the barriers. Citizens say that even traffic safety such as scissor grids and tablets are often broken down or stolen. Mayor Ragger understands the frustration of the residents, but emphasizes that the community has already taken measures to point out the users.
Alternative routes are only helpful. According to Ragger, an alternative route can be used, but in practice, however, often leads to long waiting times. These waiting times are a particularly big problem, especially for emergency vehicles that have to react quickly in emergencies. The residents report their difficulties in everyday life and the shortcomings of the alternative route.
Missing plans for a temporary solution
The financial framework conditions prevent the community from giving short -term solutions or forecasts for renovation. "We are ready to repair the accompanying road immediately as soon as the financial means can be found," said Ragger. However, the condition of the street remains tense, and the citizens are still concerned about the security and circumstances of their traffic routes.
In the current situation, it remains to be seen whether the community can receive support from outside in the near future. In the long run, the challenges that the blocking of the railway walking road brings with it could affect residents in the long run.
