Heart health in focus: Carinthian Heart Day at the Klagenfurt Clinic
On November 5, 2024, the Carinthian Heart Association will host the 31st Carinthian Heart Day in collaboration with the Klagenfurt am Wörthersee Clinic. This important event aims to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease, which is one of the leading causes of death in western industrialized countries. Heart Day will take place in the VEZ, hospital dining room, and doors will open at 4:00 p.m., with a planned end around 6:30 p.m.
Cardiovascular diseases, which include heart attacks, affect both men and women. Despite advances in medical treatment, the number of those affected continues to increase. Prim. Priv.-Doz. Dr. Hannes Alber, head of internal medicine and cardiology at the Klagenfurt Clinic, explains that this is due, among other things, to demographic developments - people are getting older and older. At the same time, a lack of physical activity also contributes to the increasing number of illnesses. In addition, genetic factors such as familial hypercholesterolemia can increase the risk of having a heart attack.
Program highlights of the Carinthian Heart Day
The event offers interesting lectures in which experts present current developments in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Topics include “Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery 2024” and “Interventional Procedures for Structural Heart Diseases.” In addition to the lectures, there will also be practical opportunities, such as visiting the echo and cardiac catheter laboratories at the Klagenfurt Clinic. At the same time, participants have the opportunity to have health checks carried out at the Carinthia Relief Organization stand and to have hearing tests carried out at the Neuroth company. Information on cholesterol is also provided by Novartis.
The event begins with a welcome by President Ing. Dietmar Kandolf and includes several specialist lectures. After a break between the lectures, during which visitors can visit the laboratories or take part in the health checks, we continue with further informative contributions. Admission to the Carinthian Heart Day is free, which makes participation easier for interested visitors and those affected.
