A tragic incident occurred on November 17, 2024 in Feldkirchen an der Donau. A 55-year-old diver died during a dive to search for golf balls. He was active alone in the lake around 11 a.m. to recover the sunken golf balls from a nearby golf course.

At 3 p.m. the diver began his third dive. But when the time extended significantly beyond the usual diving time and he did not return to the surface, a 55-year-old woman from Vienna was alerted and made an emergency call.

Extensive search operation and those involved

The emergency services were alerted at 4:52 p.m. when the first diving groups and fire departments arrived to search for the missing diver. Just a few minutes later, at 5:06 p.m., the alert was extended to Dive Base 1, underscoring the urgency of the situation.

The search involved a large number of emergency services. Fire brigade teams from various locations, including FF Alkoven, FF Aschach/Donau and FF Eferding, as well as the Austrian Water Rescue (ÖWR), the Red Cross and several police patrols worked together to find the diver. A search and rescue operation was organized with two rescue boats and fire department divers.

After an intensive search, the emergency services managed to locate the missing diver at the bottom of the lake at 5:45 p.m. Unfortunately he was motionless. Despite immediate attempts at resuscitation by rescue workers, his life could not be saved.

The circumstances of this tragic incident are now being further investigated in order to obtain more detailed information about the reasons and how it happened. The grief of the loss of an experienced diver has a severe impact on the community affected by this disaster.
