Federal Army in Carinthia: Nights full of helicopters and training missions!

From June 24th to July 12th, 2025, the Federal Army will be conducting comprehensive night exercises in Carinthia. The training includes a variety of military operations involving up to five helicopters, 80 soldiers and ten vehicles. The aim of these training units is to sharpen the troops' skills in airborne missions, parachute jumps and night flights.

The exercises are particularly intensive operational scenarios that are carried out in collaboration with the Villach pioneers and the Klagenfurt elite soldiers. The training content includes, among other things, transport, mounting and dismounting as well as combat operations after air landings, including in urban areas. During this period, several districts in Carinthia will be affected by increased helicopter noise, which requires appropriate planning by residents.

Planned activities

Particular attention is paid to the planned night flights, which will take place between June 24th and 26th and from June 30th to July 3rd. Daily flight times are scheduled between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., indicating that exercises will also be intensified during the day. These measures are part of the regular training program to ensure the armed forces' operational readiness.

The training not only serves to prepare for possible deployments, but also to improve coordination between the various military units. In this context, the official announcement from the Federal Army emphasizes that such comprehensive exercises are essential for maintaining the security situation in Austria.

Future challenges and insights

In addition to the exercises mentioned, the Armed Forces Eurofighter pilots are preparing for supersonic flights in order to further optimize their skills. This training is part of modern air defense and highlights the ongoing need to be able to respond appropriately to current security policy challenges. More information about the Eurofighter exercises is available on the Armed Forces website.

Overall, the current exercise in Carinthia reflects the commitment of the Federal Army to train the emergency services technically and tactically and at the same time to transparently communicate to citizens that there may be increased aircraft and noise levels during this time. Further details about the exercises and their content can be found on the corresponding oe24 websites, ORF Kärnten and Bundesheer can be found.
