Bundesheer in Carinthia: Nights full of helicopters and training missions!

from June 24th to July 12, 2025, the Bundesheer carries out extensive night exercises in Carinthia. The training includes a variety of military missions in which up to five helicopters, 80 soldiers and ten vehicles are used. These exercise units have the goal of sharpening the skills of the troops in air -moving inserts, parachute jumps and night flights.

The exercises are particularly intensive use scenarios that are pioneered in cooperation with the Villacher and the Klagenfurt elite soldiers. The training content includes transport, upholstery and retirement as well as fighting after air landing, including in the urban area. During this period, several districts in Carinthia are affected by increased helicopter noise, which requires appropriate planning of the residents.

planned activities

Special attention applies to the planned night flights, which will take place between 24 and 26 June and from June 30 to July 3. The daily flight times are set between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., which indicates that the exercises are also intensified during the day. These measures are part of the regular training program to ensure the willingness of the Federal Army.

The training not only serves to prepare for possible missions, but also to improve the coordination between the various military units. In this context, the official communication of the Federal Army emphasizes that such comprehensive exercises are essential to maintain the security situation in Austria.

future challenges and insights

In addition to the exercises mentioned, the federal army's Eurofighter pilots are preparing for superfluous flights in order to further optimize their skills. This training is part of modern air defense and illustrates the still existing need to be able to react appropriately to current security policy challenges. More information about the Eurofighter exercises is available on the Federal Army website.

Overall, the current exercise in Carinthia reflects the commitment of the Federal Army to train the emergency services technically and tactically and at the same time communicate transparently to the citizens that there can be increased flight and noise volume during this time. Further details about the exercises and their content are on the corresponding websites of OE24, ORF Kärnten and [Bundesheer] (https://www.bundeheer.at/aktuelles/deurofighterpiloten- trainieren-ueberschallfluege).
