Bomb threat at Klagenfurt Central Station: New findings

Yesterday the Carinthian State Police Department received a serious bomb threat against Klagenfurt main station. This led to the official closure of the station yesterday evening. The threat was announced in the form of an email that promised explosive devices would be detonated at the train station. As a result, an evacuation of the station was initiated in consultation with the ÖBB safety coordinator, which also included the temporary suspension of rail traffic. In addition, the southern railway belt between Fromillerstrasse and Lastenstrasse was closed, meaning traffic had to be rerouted. The entire station area was combed by several police patrols and service dog handlers, but no dangerous objects were found.

Klagenfurt Central Station reopened to traffic at 10:35 p.m. and all temporary traffic measures were lifted at that time. The ongoing investigation into this incident is being carried out by the State Office for State Security and Combating Extremism.

This threat was the third of its kind in Austria this week. The Graz main station, the Linz main station and the Salzburg main station had previously been evacuated due to similar threats. This series of bomb threats sheds a worrying light on the security situation at train stations in Austria.
