The flu has continued to increase in Carinthia, as reported by the “Österreichische Gesundheitskasse” (ÖGK). Both flu infections and Covid infections have increased compared to the previous week. Dr. Andreas Krauter, chief physician at the Austrian Health Insurance Fund, appeals to the population to take advantage of vaccinations as the number of sick leaves is increasing. The new influenza vaccine is available free of charge to everyone living in Austria, as is the Covid vaccination.

Since July 1, 2023, the infection process has no longer been monitored through mandatory reporting, but rather through wastewater monitoring. With less testing being done, this is an effective way to keep an eye on the situation. The ÖGK continues to recommend protective measures such as hand disinfection and wearing masks when gathering people.

In Carinthia, a total of 650 people were reported sick due to Corona last week, compared to 600 in the previous week. Sickness rates have risen particularly sharply due to flu-like infections. The number of people unable to work rose from 13,577 to 15,124.

The increasing number of sick people in Carinthia is worrying and shows the need for vaccinations and precautionary measures. The population is called upon to take advantage of the vaccinations offered to curb the spread of infections and protect everyone's health.
