Cadad planning at Blau-Weiß Linz: Who comes, who stays?

The Austrian Football Association Blau-Weiß Linz is currently in the middle of intensive squad planning for the coming season. The focus is primarily on reinforcing the defensive, since several positions in the team are not yet optimally staffed. In particular, the ambiguity about the planning of coach Mörec ensures conversation. However, the association has already taken the first measures to improve the team.

Elias Bakatukanda, a 20-year-old central defender, was hired by the 1st FC Köln until the end of the season. "We look forward to Elias and see great potential in its development with us," said sports director Christoph Schösswendter, pleased with the newcomer. Bakatukanda, who has been in the Cologne club's professional squad since 2023 and had already had three missions in the 2nd Bundesliga in the current season, also received an extension of the contract in Cologne by 2028. In addition, for Blau-Weiß Linz, there is an option to extend the loan after the season, which makes the squad rating also interesting. Thanks to the 1st FC Köln and Thomas Kessler for supporting the loan, Schösswendter continues.

defensive and offensive: structural challenges

Blau-Weiß Linz has other central defenders in his ranks, including Pasic, Manuel Maranda, Martin Moormann and Fabio Varesi bouquet. Pasic could act again as a central defender, which increases defensive flexibility. Despite these options, the association plans to oblige another central defender to improve the defensive stability. So the squad is not yet complete, and the discussions about new personnel decisions are underway.

The situation looks similar on the offensive. In the wing positions, Simon Seidl, Paul Mensah, Thomas Goiginger, the newcomer Nico Maier and Joao Luiz are available, while Muharem Huskovic and Jakob Knollmüller can also be used flexibly on the wings and in the center. However, a physically more present striker could also be an advantage to increase the team's attack strength.

Planning and strategy

According to Schösswendter, the association pursues a clear plan for the other transfers, which is to be discussed in coordination with the new team of coaches. Management is important to only sign players who fit both the club and the desired style of play. The still vacant head coach position has so far had no negative effects on ongoing transfer talks, since all planned measures could be successfully implemented in good time before the start of training.

In addition to the squad planning, the opponent analysis is a crucial element in professional football in order to be well prepared before every match. Various game phases are analyzed and specific recommendations for action are derived, which are recorded in the Prematchplan. This plan is then integrated into the training content in order to create optimal conditions for the upcoming games. The structure and approach of the opponent analysis vary depending on the budget and preferences of the coaching team, but the goal remains the same: to identify and apply the best player and team strategies.

Blau-Weiß Linz is facing exciting challenges this season, both in personnel planning and in the preparation for the game. The course for a successful season is now being set, and the club strives to take the right steps to be successful in terms of sport.
