Young wooden construction talents inspire at the Challenge in Carinthia!

St. Andrä im Lavanttal, Österreich - The wooden building Challenge 2025 recently took place in Carinthia, in which students from five agricultural technical schools realized creative wood designs. This exciting event aimed to arouse the interest of young people for the carpentry profession and to open up new perspectives with the material wood material through creative projects. The participants each received 4.6 cubic meters (2.6 tons) wood, which was provided in the form of slats and canteen. They were supported by experienced patronage wood construction masters who accompanied and guided the students throughout the process. The projects of the various schools represent an impressive variety. The students of the St. Andrä Agricultural School in the Lavanttal designed a mobile classroom, while the agricultural technical school and agricultural-Hak Althofen realized a covered rest area and the Stiegerhof Agricultural School in Gödersdorf. Further contributions came from the technical school Goldbrunnhof in Völkermarkt, which designed a mobile sales booth, and the Litzlhof education center in Lendorf near Spittal, where a market stand was built. The specialist jury honored the most creative and sustainable work, with the mobile classroom of the LFS St. Andrä took first place. For the audience, an online voting was possible until June 10, in which over 7,300 votes were made; The audience award went to the chapel of the LFS Stiegerhof. national importance and training initiatives

The wooden building Challenge is part of innovative educational formats, which are also developed as part of the “Zukunft Holzbau - Qualification Ways for Sustainable Building” project. This project started on June 1, 2022 and is scheduled to run until May 31, 2025. With a budget of around 2 million euros, new ways for training and qualification in timber construction are being developed. The priorities include the sustainable further development of timber construction, modern digital tools and practice -oriented content. At the final event of the Holzbau Challenge in the Bau & Technik, representatives from politics and business appreciated the extraordinary achievements of the young people. Among the honors were the governor of the governor Martin Gruber and state guild master Fritz Klaura, both of whom highlighted the importance of such projects for the development of young talents in timber construction. The combination of traditional craftsmanship with creative approaches not only strengthens the craft, but also promotes a sustainability awareness for future generations.
