International Jazz Day 2025: A festival of unity in Abu Dhabi!
Abu Dhabi, Vereinigte Arabische Emirate - On May 2, 2025, the 14th International Jazz Day culminated in Abu Dhabi with a remarkable all-star Global concert. The event, which was organized in connection with UNESCO and Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, offered an impressive platform for jazz artists from all over the world. Under the direction of Herbie Hancock, who also appeared as the main act, the concert was moderated by Jeremy Irons and offered a large number of internationally celebrated artists.
The prominent participants included Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, José James and John McLaughlin, all of whom embody the sound and diversity of jazz. As part of the concert, Hancock presented a solo performance of his classic "Maiden Voyage". Particularly noteworthy was the cooperation of traditional Arab music with the jazz presented by local artists.
concerts and programs for all
The concert can be seen as a culmination of the celebrations that have been going on since April 30, which took place in over 190 countries. Abu Dhabi as a global host city contributed to the cultural diversity during this five -week series of jazz appearances, educational programs and community events. This included not only the main concerts, but also master classes and workshops that took place in institutions such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Nyu Abu Dhabi.
The all-star cast was devoted to pieces such as "The Thrill Is Gone", which was performed by Dee Dee Bridgewater, John McLaughlin and John Pizzarelli, as well as "Someone to Watch Over Me" by Dianne Reeves and "Miss You" by José James. The concert took place in the Etihad Arena, among others, and was broadcast live via various platforms such as UNTV and Facebook.
promotion of peace and cultural dialogue
The International Jazz Day was launched by UNESCO in 2011 to promote values such as peace, unity and intercultural dialogue. The event reaches more than 2 billion people annually and combines musical talents to honor cultural contributions. In addition to the concert events, the jazz day also offered a panel discussion between Herbie Hancock and John Ridding, which underlined the cultural exchange.
This year the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi was a partner of jazz day, while United Airlines supported the event as a global airline partner. The influence and reach of the international jazz day should not be underestimated, since the initiative not only brings together artists, but also networked worldwide.
