Huawei's ESS passes extreme ignition test - revolution in energy security!

In an impressive breakthrough, Huawei Digital Power's Smart String & Grid Forming Energy Storage System (ESS) has successfully passed an extreme ignition test. This test, carried out under real conditions and using innovative methods, has been witnessed by customers and the globally recognized organization DNV. This represents a significant advance in safety standards for the energy storage industry, as it already is solar.huawei.com reported.

The test, carried out in accordance with the international standard UL 9540A, comprehensively verifies the safety functions of the ESS. Four actual mass-produced systems were tested that were at 100% charge. There was no manual intervention whatsoever, which made the test particularly realistic. What was particularly striking was that triggering thermal passages in 12 cells did not lead to a fire or an explosion. This was made possible by the innovative combined defense mechanism that effectively dissipates flammable gases, as by ots.at is highlighted.

High safety standards and exceptional durability

The ESS also demonstrated exceptional fire resistance: with maximum oxygen supply and a progressive increase in thermally unstable cells, the temperature in adjacent containers remained below 47°C, well below the threshold for thermal runaway. The ESS safety system ensures that potential faults occur with delayed progression, providing valuable time for emergency response. This improvement could significantly change the security situation in the energy sector.

With this test, Huawei has established a new security logic for ESS that offers comprehensive protection from the battery system to the entire system. These results underline the importance of high safety standards for the sustainable development of renewable energies and set a new benchmark for future innovations in the industry.
