Habsburg marriage failed: Archduke Alexander and Natacha separated!

Archduke Alexander of Austria and Countess Natacha Roumiantzoff-Pachkevitch have separated. The news of the end of their relationship comes just over a year after their opulent wedding in October 2023, which took place at the beautiful Eglise Saint Pierre in Belœil, Belgium. As 5min reports, the separation is said to have been decided at the end of 2024. Natacha has now taken back her birth name Roumiantzoff-Pachkevitch and is now concentrating on her event agency “RPZ Events” in Geneva.

Archduke Christoph and Archduke Imre of Habsburg-Lorraine were among those present at their wedding, which attracted numerous royal guests. Natacha wowed in an elegant long-sleeved lace wedding dress, while Archduke Alexander appeared in a classic morning suit. An emotional moment of the ceremony was that the church had previously hosted the funeral of the family matriarch, Archduchess Yolande, which added a special touch to the festive atmosphere, as Tatler soberly notes.

Habsburg tradition and history

The Archduke belongs to the Habsburg-Lorraine family, which ruled the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the monarchy was dissolved in 1918. Even if the Habsburgs are no longer officially allowed to use their noble titles in Austria after this date, they use them unofficially or abroad. Archduke Alexander is the youngest child of Archduke Carl Christian of Austria and Princess Marie-Astrid of Luxembourg. Carl Christian is a grandson of Emperor Charles I, the last emperor of Austria. This dynastic origin and history is deeply interwoven with the Habsburg family, whose origins go back to the 10th century, when Guntram “the Rich” is considered the progenitor, as Habsburger.net informs.

The Habsburgs shaped European history for centuries and were once among the most powerful noble families. Their genealogy is complicated and often shrouded in legend, which makes it difficult to reconstruct their family relationships. Over the past centuries, numerous family trees have emerged to underline their legitimacy, constructing direct connections to historical figures from antiquity.

While Archduke Alexander last appeared publicly at the funeral service for Archduchess Estelle of Austria without Natacha, this clearly shows the changes in his life. The decision to part ways could also be related to the last event Natacha is planning - an "anti-Valentine's Day" ski weekend in Switzerland - where she looks after her own well-being.
