The focus: actions and commemoration for international women's day!

In the run -up to International Women's Day on March 8, several important events take place that focus on the rights and achievements of women. The memorial event of the SPÖ women, which will take place on Friday, March 7, 2025, will take place at the Vienna central cemetery on Friday, March 7, 2025. There are wreaths in honor of the social democratic pioneers Rosa Jochmann, Hertha Firnberg, Johanna Dohnal, Barbara Prammer, Sabine Oberhauser and Helga Konrad, reports OTS .

At the same time, the "2nd Wiedner Frauenwoche" is organized in the district of Wieden, which also begins on March 7th. Numerous activities are planned that highlight the importance of women's rights and gender equality. From a tour of the district, in which Alina Strmljan and Philipp Maurer from the district museum Wieden present important women rights to a creative workshop in which posters can be designed for the demonstration on March 8, a wide range is offered. The events that are under the motto to point out the need for equality are part of the efforts of violence against women and strengths the awareness of the challenges with which women are confronted with, so reports wien.gv.at .

These commemorative and action events clarify that the topics of equality and women's rights are still of the greatest relevance. Despite all progress, women still receive 16.6 percent less wages than men, and violence against women remains an urgent problem. International Women's Day is therefore not only the focus of historical achievements, but also calls for a persistent examination of gender equality.
