Feller: Fourth place and broken dream at the World Ski Championships!
At the 48th Alpine World Championships in Switzerland, Tyrolean skier Manuel Feller experienced bitter disappointment. In the slalom on Sunday he had to settle for a thankless fourth place (+0.79 seconds), while the Swiss Loic Meillard emerged as the winner. Silver went to the Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath and bronze to the German Linus Straßer. Feller, who was medal-worthy at the time, was devastated after the decision and described the situation as the “biggest defeat of his career”. About the first run, in which he fell short of expectations, he said: "I felt that it wasn't quite ideal." This performance left him only sixth at halftime, which shattered his dream of a medal at home, reported vol.at.
Feller’s dramatic competition
The final race of the World Championship was an emotional rollercoaster for Feller. In the second round he caught up and improved his running time significantly, but was unable to surpass his direct competitor Meillard and his dream of a medal. He concluded his disappointed assessment with the words: “I'm not getting any younger, I definitely won't have any more World Cups at home.” Dominik Raschner, who finished eighth in the event, and Marco Schwarz, who was eliminated in the first round, also had their personal challenges to overcome, such as tirol.ORF.at reported.
The World Cup ended with a total of seven medals for Austria, which catapulted the nation to second place in the medal table behind Switzerland. The ski team was able to achieve a strong result overall with two gold medals, three silver and two bronze - despite Feller's personal disappointment. Loic Meillard celebrated his significant victory and declared: “Three races and three medals in one World Championship, that’s simply brilliant.”
