Investigations against Swiss for bomb threats at schools and train stations!
A 20-year-old Swiss focuses on an investigation into a series of bomb threats that were received in Austria in 2024. These threats that were directed against schools, shopping centers and train stations led to extensive police operations and evacuations, such as Kosmo. Despite the severity of these threats, no actual explosives have so far been discovered. The public prosecutor's office in Switzerland has now launched an investigation into the suspect, the case of which is currently located by the administrative authority in St. Gallen.
The investigation was able to assign four bomb threats to the 20-year-old, who is known in his home country and suffered from psychological problems. These specific threats concerned a shopping center in Salzburg and the train station in Wels, including educational institutions in Graz and Linz. However, other responsible persons remain unknown. In addition, some investigative lines lead to possible imitators and a grouping in Germany, while a final report is expected over the entire situation.
Investigations and legal consequences
The Austrian authorities have initiated investigations since September 30, 2023, which refer to a total of 27 anonymous bomb threats. These threats were predominantly transmitted by email and were directed not only at train stations, but also at schools and shopping centers. As reported [SRF] (https://www.srf.ch/news/schweiz/bägre- bombendrohungen-schweiz-zigen-gewigen-nicht-an-oesterreich-aus), the first five threats against train stations had an impact on around 450 trains and thousands of passengers, which led to the interruptions of the train traffic of around eight hours.
The police continue to evaluate the situation while the Linz public prosecutor is urging the case if the suspect is not delivered. According to the responsible bodies, the suspect was arrested, but his delivery to Austria was rejected by Switzerland. The spokesman for the public prosecutor's office in St. Gallen confirmed that the man did not agree to delivery and that a custody was not applied for.
public security and costs of operations
The numerous bomb threats not only led to uncertainty among the population, but also caused considerable costs. On average, the costs per police operation amounted to around 30,000 euros, which resulted in financial damage of almost 800,000 euros. In order to maintain public security, the state security also examines similar threats in Switzerland and Germany. An indication that bomb threats can result in criminal consequences is the determination that the disturbance of public peace by threatening crimes with up to three years of prison or fine can be punished, as daily news
The authorities do everything they can to hold the senders of such threats. In view of the high operating expenses, it is possible that the costs will be charged to the polluters. Police and state protection measures have already led to large-scale evacuations and massive police operation throughout the country, with hundreds of people being affected and future incidents are not excluded.
