Ice Age Mittersill: New ice skating surface delights young and old!
The city of Mittersill is delighting its residents and visitors with a brand new highlight: the “Eiszeit Mittersill” ice skating rink, which was officially opened on December 1, 2024. Today children's eyes shine as they skate on the sparkling ice surface, which not only enlivens the city center but also offers weather-independent conditions thanks to technical cooling. Michael Sinnhuber, Managing Director of Mittersill Plus, proudly explained after the opening: “Just 15 minutes after the opening there were so many people on the ice that I thought I couldn’t fit more!” This project has been long planned and is celebrated as one of the most successful ventures in the last five years MyDistrict.at reported.
Optimal conditions and diverse usage options
The rink will be open daily from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with additional evening hours on Tuesday and Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Groups can use the space exclusively for themselves after booking in advance - ideal for ice hockey matches or simply ice skating with friends. Schools also have the option of giving lessons on the ice early in the morning, which makes this offer particularly practical. Mayor Thomas Ellmauer, City Councilor for Sports Volker Kalcher and Deputy Mayor Michael Sinnhuber gave the official starting signal and praised the cooperation of everyone involved in implementing this project Mittersill.at highlights.
The entire equipment of the ice skating rink was rented and the organization was carried out by Mittersill Plus. A big thank you goes to the employees of the city building yard and to Stefan Berger, who managed the ice construction, as well as to the supporting partners such as “Stadtimbiss Lois” for food and “Sport Steger” for the ice skate rental. The project brings a breath of fresh air to the city and provides winter entertainment in Mittersill, which is scheduled to run until March 2, 2025.
