The Linz Regional Stadtbahn picks up speed! On January 15, 2025, the tender for the preliminary project Gallneukirchen/Pregarten was published, and the first plans began in December 2024. The surcharge went to a bidding consortium consisting of ILF Consulting Engineers Austria GmbH and Schimetta Consult ZT GmbH. Current developments and project goals
The preliminary project should be completed by the end of 2026 and includes the planning of track streets, stops and various engineering facilities such as tunnels and bridges. An important objective is to create a connection between the state capital and the Mühlviertel independent of road traffic. According to rail OÖ this is guaranteed by several tunnels and bridges along the required route. State Councilor Günther Steinkellner describes the project as a "traffic main artery" and wishes a quick, staunch connection for commuters in the region.
Information events were organized to improve the planning and integration of the municipalities. State Councilor Steinkellner assured that all relevant stakeholders are included in the planning in order to continuously advance the project. The development of a tunnel security concept and the consideration of environmental aspects are also part of the planning to minimize negative effects on the residents.
