Three suspects after Brutal robbery in the Vienna City Park!
Stadtpark, 1030 Wien, Österreich - On April 26, 2025, a 27-year-old man was victim of an attack in the city park in Vienna-Landstrasse. According to vienna.at the man was addressed, beaten, threatened and finally robbed by unknown people at around 03:30 a.m. At that point he was on the way home of a celebration, and there was no connection between the victim and his perpetrators.
After he was able to flee from the threatening situation, the man initially not informed any emergency services. Instead, he stayed in his apartment. Only after his sister's urge, who found out about his attack and pain did he call the police and the emergency services. He was then taken to a hospital for further medical care.
arrest of the suspects
The police investigation led to three suspects: a 17-year-old and two 18-year-olds who are partly confessed. Despite the severity of the accusation, the suspects were reported on the freely, while the investigation continues.
The increasing crime in Austria, which repeatedly causes worrying headlines, is underpinned by statistical data. In 2023, a total of around 528,000 crimes were reported, which marked the highest level since 2016. As Statista , there is no third of the crimes indicated, i.e. approx. 186,000. The increase in thefts in the city was particularly alarming, with around 85,400 offenses, the highest value since the start of the records.
challenges and public perception
The crime situation is also influenced by the perception of the public: Around 70% of Austrians believe that immigrants tighten the problem of crime. In addition, drug crime is worrying, with around 35,400 crimes displayed in 2023, many of which took place in Vienna. The most common addictive remains cannabis, whereby the legalization of cannabis is increasingly promoted by the public.
Another problem is cybercrime, which counted around 65,900 offenses in the same year and was only provided with a clearance rate of 31.6%. Politically motivated crime is also evident in the numbers, whereby Vienna is considered a hotspot for right acts. Despite these challenges, trust in the police remains relatively high; According to a survey from the spring of 2024, 77% of those surveyed stated that they had confidence in police work.
The incidents in the city park illustrate the continuing challenges with which the Viennese police and the judiciary are confronted. The authorities take the ongoing investigations and the public interest in the investigation of such crimes to ensure security in the city.
