Doping case Sinner: Three months lock - a fair judgment?
The doping case around Jannik Sinner, the prominent Italian tennis player, now came to an official end. In a comparison with the world anti-doping agency (WADA), the world ranking list accepted a three-month lock, which applies retrospectively from February 9, 2025 and lasts until May 4, 2025. Sinner was tested twice for the anabolic steroid closebol in March 2024, which frightened the tennis world. The player emphasized that the substance over the hands of his physiotherapist came into his body, and the Wada accepted the explanation without requesting his previous results, as well as Puls24 reported.
President of the Italian tennis association defends Sinner
The three months lock are considered comparatively mild, especially against the background of the possible consequences. If the International Sports Court (CAS) had been negotiated, a lock of up to two years had also been in the room. Sinner, who most recently won the Australian Open, can start at the next Grand Slam tournament in Roland Garros. Italy's tennis president Angelo Binaghi described the regulation as proof of Sinner's "absolute innocence", while the ATP received the decision positively and saw an important memory of the players' responsibility with regard to their treatment methods. The Wada admitted that despite the special circumstances, a three -month lock is considered justified, as krone noted.
However, the reactions to the decision are mixed. The Australian professional Nick Kyrgios said critically and described the day as "sad for tennis". He basically questioned fairness in tennis and criticized that the case was kept secret for too long. Despite the controversy and the long duration of the procedure, Sinner is relieved about the end of a case that floated over him for almost a year. "I have always accepted that I am responsible for my team," he said, which underlines how much this incident dealt with. From April 13th he will be able to officially train again.
