Doping scandal: Jannik Sinner banned for three months – comeback in May!
A doping scandal is shaking the tennis world: Jannik Sinner, the 23-year-old world-class athlete and current winner of the Australian Open, has been banned for three months by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). This decision came after two positive tests for the anabolic steroid Clostebol, carried out in March 2024 during the tournaments in Miami and Indian Wells. Since then, Sinner has not played a tournament and will remain inactive until May 4th oe24 reported.
Immediate consequences for Sinner
Sinner, who explained his positive tests by saying that his physiotherapist had introduced the substance into his body during a treatment, has decided to accept the punishment. This was a strategic decision to avoid lengthy legal battles. He originally faced a ban of up to two years. The Italian Tennis Association, however, views the agreement positively and sees it as proof of Sinner's innocence. “The situation has turned out to be disgraceful, but now Sinner can finally find peace,” said the association's president, Angelo Binaghi. However, the current results, including the title at the Australian Open, remain with him day24 confirmed.
Despite the suspension, Sinner will be able to return in time for the French Open, which begins on May 25th. He will be allowed to train again from April 13th. During the suspension he will miss major tournaments, including the spring classics in Indian Wells and Miami and the clay court tournaments in Monaco and Madrid. However, this has no impact on his participation in the Grand Slam tournaments.
