The police are often confronted with mentally polluted perpetrators, and the challenges in fighting crime are diverse. In addition, incidents such as this are fueling the public debate on crime and dealing with foreign suspects.
The fact that 43% of the suspects and convicts were foreigners in 2022, including many from Romania, ensures additional conversation in society. 70% of Austrians believe that immigrants tighten the crime problems. However, trust in the police remains relatively high; 77% of the official surveyed expressed their trust, which is reassuring in view of the increasing challenges.
